I am one of the very lucky people who gets to be a volunteer mentor with Connect Kids. It is so wonderful to be able to be there for a child who needs a friend and someone they trust.

Just turning up, consistency and listening are the most important skills of a volunteer mentor. 

I get to mentor the most wonderful young person and we spend two hours a fortnight together doing fun things that she enjoys like going to the local swimming pool (good exercise for me too), painting in the park and even a trip up to Bird World in Maleny, a first for my mentee.

I would encourage anyone with two hours a fortnight or month to apply as a mentor, there are so many children and young people from disadvantaged and single parent families in need of our support.
