Greg & Xander

“When I first met Xander he had moved from interstate and was struggling to make friends in and out of school. Xander was quite a shy kid initially and was very guarded. Over time Xander opened up and our mentorship grew quite close. We have great fun going to the movies or other activities that Xander and I both enjoy. Xander is such a confident person now, has made many friends at his school, is very open and sometimes cheeky in our interactions, and is a joy to be around. ⁠

Xander was originally thinking that Connect Kids paid for its mentors. When I informed him that this was not the case and that I was happy to meet up with him as a volunteer you could see him thinking about what this meant. Xander has since been successful in a Community leadership role at his school and has said he would like to do community work and help others when he starts his employment journey.⁠

On a personal level, the mentorship program has been a very giving experience for me as well. I have enjoyed catching up with Xander and we often communicate outside of our visits. I am glad I joined Connect Kids.“ ⁠
